"Flash Jewelry" This Friday!


In the Madison, WI area and looking for something free crafty to do with your Friday night?  Come to Free Art Friday "Flash Jewelry" and make some quick, easy, and fabulous and free wire jewelry.  We will be offering two projects: a basic wire wrapped ring and a spiral-link bracelet.  The event runs from 5pm to Midnight, and I'll be there from 8pm to 10pm. We'll be in the Lakefront on Langdon in the Memorial Union (yes it's still open during renovation!) Did I mention it's free?

Upcoming Class: Custom Handmade Earrings

My newest class is perfect for beginners who want to learn how to make earrings and beaders who want to step up to wirework. We'll be learning how to make earrings using basic wire-wrapping techniques and beads. We'll also learn how to make our own headpins and ear wires. By combining a few simple techniques you can make an endless variety of earring designs!
This class is open to UW-Madison Faculty and Staff, and Wisconsin Union Members. If you're not a member, consider joining, or you can purchase a 6-month introductory membership for an additional fee. This class starts on Monday and has three openings left! There's still time to sign up. Here's all the info:

Upcoming Class: Metal Jewelry Design Basics

If you are in the Madison, WI area and you're interested in learning basic metal fabrication skills this is the class for you! We will cover sawing, drilling and piecing sheet, riveting, finishing, texturing and basic soldering. This class is perfect for absolute beginners and jewelry makers looking to expand their skills into metalwork. This class is open to UW-Madison students and staff and Wisconsin Union members. I'm very excited to be teaching a lot of great jewelry making courses through the Wisconsin Union Mini-Course program this fall. I have two classes starting next week that still have plenty of spaces open! We have a great craftshop facility with all the tools you need and materials kits will be available to purchase on the first day of class. Here is the information on these classes:

Learn basic metalsmithing techniques including texturing, forming, soldering and bezel setting to create five different metal ring designs

Upcoming Class: Charming Bracelets

Are you interested in learning the wrapped loop technique for making jewelry with beads and wire? I will be teaching a class through the Wisconsin Union Mini-Courses program that will cover this fundamental jewelry making technique as well as techniques for making findings from silver wire. We'll be making bracelets in the class but the skills you learn can be applied to any kind of wire and bead jewelry. The class will be held on Tuesday July 19th and Tuesday, July 26th from 6:30pm to 9:30pm at the UW-Madison Memorial Union Craftshop. Check out the Mini-Courses online catalog and look for the "Charming Bracelets" class to sign up. Wisconsin Union Mini-Courses are open to union members, students, faculty and staff of the university, and their guests.
